Grey

Here there’s still the same stays plus fluffy petticoat – combo underneath to create the iconic conical bodyshape of the 18th century. While the inner bodice of the dress itself is made of several pieces, the whole grey upper is made of only eight! Four for the full circle skirt plus center back of the bodice (which is cut in one with the skirt, that’s called en-fourreau, very typical), two for the left and right side and two for the sleeves. And I could have numbered it down to five, if the fabric would have been wide enough to cut the skirt in one piece. The dress is closed in front with hooks and eyes (but not down to the hem, so it’s basically a coat-dress, much like the manteau of the typical 18th century-garments). The whole upper material is shaped only by draping! No darts!

Material is grey and black (woollen) superfine 100 — flannel (grey) and satin (black) — which is usually a fabric used for fine men’s suits.
